Welcome to Design Studies
IMPORTANT UPDATE: Due to revisions
in the curriculum of the Career and Technology Studies (CTS) program,
the existing Design Studies courses (print versions) offered at Alberta
Distance Learning Centre will no longer be offered as of September 2011.
However, course development is underway for the new online Design
Studies 1010 course, with an anticipated release
date of September 2011. Development will continue for other new online
Design
Studies courses, to replace existing print courses, as well introduce
new
Design Studies course offerings. These will become available throughout
the
2011/12 school year.

Design is evident, often rather simply, in every facet of society. Sometimes design is a complex feature. In any context, design brings a sense of order to the world. Design entails discovering solutions that correspond to the user, task, and context of use. Well-designed objects correspond to their context so well that they are easy to use and beneficial to the user. Design is:
The Design Studies courses at Alberta Distance Learning Centre (ADLC) are part of the Media, Design & Communication Arts (MDC) cluster of the new Career & Technology Studies (CTS) Program. These courses aim to assist students to become aware of design in their environments and to engage them in the design process to create designs for diverse contexts, utilizing a variety of media tools.
